Think About Using A Ceramic Coating On Your Car

Your new car looks beautiful. You want it to stay that way for a long time. That means that you need to protect it in some way. One way to do that is to get a ceramic coating placed on your car. A ceramic coating is a very thin coating that is applied to your car, usually by hand. The coating bonds with the paint on your car and forms a shield. It doesn't change the color of your car, so if you like the color of your paint, that shouldn't be an issue. While the coating is called a ceramic coating, it is actually made out of chemical polymers, which is what allows it to bond so well with the paint. Like everything, there are pros and cons to using a ceramic coating. So, what are they?

Pros

Hydrophobic

When it comes to the paint on your car, hydrophobia is a good thing. A hydrophobic coating is one that water will just slide right off of. That means things like mud and other wet gunk are going to slide off the hydrophobic coating. 

No Reapplication

Having your car waxed can give you some of the same advantages as a ceramic coating, but you have to have the wax reapplied a few times a year. A coating doesn't need to be reapplied, so that is going to make it easier for you. 

Cons

Finicky Application

One of the cons to a ceramic coating is that it has very specific application needs. For the best results, the paint needs to be scrupulously clean, which means it needs to be washed and possibly rewashed. Then it needs to be polished. The polishing gets rid of any swirls or defects in the paint and makes it very, very smooth. Only after all of that has happened, can you start the application process. This is something that you can do on your own, but you are going to have better results if you have a professional do it. 

Water Spots

Even though the ceramic coating is hydrophobic, you can still end up with water spots and water marks from where the water evaporates on your car, if the water can't get off your car before that happens. 

If you have a car that you want to make sure is as protected as possible, then you should think about having a ceramic coating applied to your car.
